KARMAR

Jazz onirico

Karmar is the name of the new duo exploring the fertile space between composition and improvisation, between structure and dream. The pairing of clarinet and cello – two instruments from different musical worlds – opens up a soundscape both intimate and expansive, lyrical and bold.

At the heart of the project is a collection of original works by Marco Santilli, written with the unique artistry of Karolina Öhman in mind. With her deep roots in contemporary classical music and fearless openness to improvisation, Karolina becomes more than a collaborator – she is the ideal counterpart in this sonic dialogue.

“The term Oneiric Jazz captures the essence of our creative process: composing in a dream-like state, like daydreaming with your eyes wide open.” – Marco Santilli

The music draws freely from jazz, classical, folclore imaginaire, and minimalism. Sometimes it feels like chamber music; sometimes it reaches orchestral intensity. It always invites the listener to step into a shifting frame of sound, where imagination leads the way.

Why Karmar?

In Swedish, karmar means “frames” – a subtle nod to Karolina’s heritage. But the name carries broader resonances: frames as shifting moods, inner rooms, or poetic structures. Short and balanced, the word has a quiet strength and mystery, just like the music it represents.

Karmar is a fresh and unheard voice in European jazz – music that listens as much as it speaks, open to space, silence, and surprise.
